City of Englewood, Colorado
Home MenuPlacemaking
Downtown Englewood currently boasts a variety of parks and public spaces. However, there is a need for both more of these places within Downtown as well as improvements to existing ones. Well-designed and accessible public spaces can improve the visitor experience, enhance Downtown’s identity, support property values, provide connections between destinations and encourage community gatherings. A renewed focus on streetscape improvements and pedestrian-friendly accessibility will make Downtown safer and more welcoming for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
The EDDA works to:
- Ensure Downtown is clean, safe and accessible to all
- Recommend design and safety improvements to existing public spaces as well as create new public spaces within Downtown
- Improve the pedestrian experience throughout Downtown
- Build upon and enhance the sense of a local Downtown identity
Imagining South Broadway's Future
Our traditional main street is coming into its own! EDDA is working to energize South Broadway’s core blocks with new streetscaping, beautification, safer sidewalks, alley gathering spaces and more. The South Broadway Public Realm Action Plan will make South Broadway more appealing and safer for everyone, creating a vibrant main street that will attract new visitors and businesses to our unique city! The plan will include short-term pilot projects to encourage popup gatherings and events, as well as other elements to support Downtown Englewood's unique character. As the plan takes shape, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to add your input in helping celebrate South Broadway’s authenticity, inherent quirkiness and local nightlife! Find out more about the South Broadway Public Realm Action Plan.
South Broadway Resurfacing
Starting spring 2024 you’ll see city street crews scraping and resurfacing South Broadway from Floyd Avenue south to the Hampden 285 bridge. The new highway-grade pavement will last a good long time as will new ADA intersection ramps. The funky crosswalk at Girard Avenue will get a facelift, incorporating colorful elements of the Downtown Englewood logo. Coming this fall, a HAWK signal will make crossing South Broadway easier and safer for everyone.
CitySpark Energizes CityCenter
Englewood’s CityCenter is waiting for its big makeover into a higher density, transit-oriented village plan. In the in between, Englewood gems are occupying the once-empty storefronts to encourage foot traffic, creative activity and community reengagement. The Guild which offers collaborative coworking spaces and business development education for budding entrepreneurs, has opened its doors. RedLine Contemporary Art Center and Historic Englewood will also be opening storefronts in CityCenter 2024. Find out more about the CityCenter redevelopment.
South Broadway Paseos & Banners
The two paseos on Englewood’s main street welcome conversation, music, food, libations and people watching. Completed in summer 2023 with a CDOT Revitalizing Main Streets grant, EDDA helped spruced up the South Broadway venues by contracting for new paint, landscaping, trees, string lighting and bike racks.
EDDA also funds a series of colorful street banners that celebrate our hometown’s flair for the unique, its self-made attitude and our spirit of entrepreneurialism.
Future Festival Street
EDDA is envisioning a Festival Street along West Hampden with string lights, improved sidewalks, pole banners and street trees.
Deep Cleaning Main Street
EDDA contracts for regular supplementary maintenance on South Broadway, Old Hampden and several Downtown public spaces. Contractors sweep gutters, remove litter, clean benches, bike racks and trash cans, and spot clean sidewalks to keep our public spaces inviting.
Homeless and Mental Health Assistance Programs Underway
AllHealth Network has launched a pilot program with the Englewood Police Department to respond to non-emergency mental health calls by dispatching a Mobile Response Unit van staffed by a registered nurse and a behavioral health case manager. The program frees up police and sends professionals to de-escalate situations involving welfare checks, substance use, homelessness concerns, thoughts of self-harm and more. The team can provide essential items, transportation to a care facility or transit hub, and outreach to local support organizations. To request assistance for someone in need, call the police non-emergency number at 303.761.7410 or 911. Higher level mental health concerns will continue to be addressed by AllHealth Network’s Co-Responder Program launched in 2018 with the Englewood Police Department.
