What is the Lead Reduction Program?

The City of Englewood’s Lead Reduction Program is a multi-year program that will eliminate lead service lines in the water system and replace them with copper lines. While water is currently lead-free when it leaves the water treatment facility and travels through the distribution system, it can come in contact with historic lead service lines or plumbing throughout your home. If your home was constructed before 1960, you may have a lead service line providing water to your home. The city is dedicated to the delivery of safe drinking water and is taking significant steps in the coming years to eliminate lead pipes from the water system.

Through this program, the city will:

  1. Systematically replacing all lead service lines in our service area with copper lines. Lead service line replacements began in 2024, and it will take multiple years to remove all lead and galvanized steel service lines.
  2. Develop and maintain a publicly accessible service line inventory map of all service lines in Englewood’s service area. View the Service Line Inventory Map Here
  3. Provide free water pitchers and filters certified to remove lead to customers with confirmed lead or galvanized steel service lines to use for six months following their service line replacement.
  4. Continue to provide program updates, outreach and education.
