The City of Englewood's Signal Wrap project is designed to help build a sense of community ownership while discouraging graffiti and other acts of vandalism and to promote neighborhood identity.

The city is looking to commission artists/teams to aesthetically transform traffic signal boxes from functional infrastructure to colorful and dynamic works of art.

Selected artists will receive a $500 stipend.

Uniquely Englewood LogoTheme

The theme of "Uniquely Englewood" celebrates everything that makes Englewood a special place to live, work and play. Artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from the unique features of the community, such as its small-town atmosphere, diverse restaurants, expansive parks and lively downtown.

Color Palette

While artists are encouraged to use the provided color palette, they are also free to explore additional colors that reflect the essence of Englewood. The palette should serve as a guide to maintain a cohesive look while allowing room for personal creativity.

Submission Guidelines

Signal wraps may be considered when designed per the following criteria:

Design Criteria:

  • Art must be two-dimensional and translatable to a digital image
  • Original, non-digital artwork must be done on a durable surface (cotton-rag, poster, Bristol, etc.) which can easily be scanned. Designs cannot incorporate gold leaf or layers of mixed media that can come loose during the scanning process.
  • A maximum of three designs may be submitted by any one artist or team.
  • Design must be pleasing and add beauty to the community.
  • Design cannot contain business promotions or advertisements.
  • Design cannot include any breach of intellectual property, brands, trademarks, or depictions of illegal activity.
  • The design must be family-friendly.
  • Design must be continuous and cover all four sides of the traffic signal box.

Vinyl Wraps:

Chosen designs will be converted to digital images and printed on high-quality vinyl wraps. This vinyl wrap will cover the traffic box on all sides. Submitted designs must work in a continuous flow in order to cover the box in its entirety.

Selection Process

All design submissions will be reviewed and selected on its artistic merit, creativity, and overall impact on the community. The committee reserves the right to reject any or all entries at any time in the review and selection process.

Application Requirements

  • Please submit the following:
    • Full-color design. Design must be created on a 8 ½” x 11” template or larger and 300 dpi for photographs and graphic designs
    • Submission application, including a short description of the design

Design

  • Relevance of the piece to the building or city, its values, culture, and people;
  • Suitability of the work for outdoor display, including its maintenance and conservation requirements;
  • Relationship of the work to the site and the host community, especially how it serves to activate or enhance public space;
  • Appropriateness of the scale of the artwork;

Site Selection

  • The City of Englewood will select the site location for winning submissions.
