General Information about Englewood's Municipal Elections

• All regular and special municipal elections are administered by the City Clerk’s Office, under the auspices of the Election Commission. All information regarding the conduct of a City of Englewood election or requirements for a City Council candidate or Municipal Judge candidate should be obtained from the City Clerk’s Office. The City Clerk is the designated election official for the City of Englewood.
• City elections are conducted under the provisions of the Charter, the Englewood Municipal Code and the Colorado Election Laws. 
• City elections are non-partisan.
• City of Englewood General Municipal Elections are held on the first Tuesday in November in odd numbered years. The City of Englewood typically participates in coordinated elections with Arapahoe County for general municipal elections in an effort to minimize costs and improve service to Englewood citizens. There is always the possibility that a City election could be held separately. 
• Special elections are scheduled and held as necessary.
• The Arapahoe County Clerk is responsible for Englewood School Board and Special District Elections.
• County Clerks are responsible for the conduct of elections for federal, state and county officials.  If you are a resident of Englewood, call the Arapahoe County Clerk, 303-795-4511, for partisan election information.

City Council Candidacy Information

• There are four Council Districts within the City of Englewood. Council District Map (PDF file)
• City Council members are elected to four-year, staggered terms. 
• City Council consists of seven Council members. One is elected from each of the four districts and the remaining three are elected at-large. 
• Members of Council select the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem from among their members. The Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem serve in that capacity for a two-year term.
• City Council candidates are nominated by petition. Only those petitions that have been prepared by the Englewood City Clerk’s Office may be circulated.
      
• Qualifications for Office of City Council (Home Rule Charter § 23)
  • At the time of the election a candidate must be a citizen of the United States, be 25 years of age or older and a registered elector of the City for at least one year immediately preceding the election. Council members elected by Districts shall also be residents and registered electors of their Districts. Candidates are required to sign an affidavit as to qualifications.
  • No Council member shall hold any other public office or employment for which compensation is paid from any municipality. 
  • It is vital that anyone interested in running for office contact the City Clerk’s Office for information relative to the Fair Campaign Practices Act (FCPA).

Municipal Judge Candidacy Information

• Municipal Judge candidates are nominated by petition. Only those petitions that have been prepared by the Englewood City Clerk's Office may be circulated.
• Englewood's Municipal Judge is elected to a four year term.
• It is vital that anyone interested in running for office contact the City Clerk’s Office for information relative to the Fair Campaign Practices Act.
• Qualifications for Office of Municipal Judge (Home Rule Charter § 69)
  • The Municipal Judge shall be an attorney-at-law admitted to practice in Colorado, and shall have had a minimum of two years experience in the active practice of law, and be a registered elector of the City. Candidates are required to sign an affidavit as to qualifications.
