Noise

Complaints concerning excessive noise are investigated by either Code Enforcement or the Police Department.

  • Code Enforcement addresses chronic noises, such as those from air handlers on buildings.
  • The Police Department addresses disturbances of the peace, such as a loud stereo or loud party.

Zoning regulations and time of day determine noise allowances. Typically, in residential zones, noise cannot exceed 55 decibels during the day and 50 decibels from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. There are special limits for construction activity, loading operations and animals or fowl.
