The Englewood Police Department (EPD) continues to develop programs and procedures to best address needs in the community including call diversion and response to those in mental health and other personal crisis situations. As a part of this EPD has formed a partnership with AllHealth Network (AHN) to launch a Mobile Response Unit (MRU). EPD worked extensively with AHN to develop the MRU including developing guiding policy and training staff of AHN and EPD.
AllHealth Network Mobile Response Unit, in conjunction with dispatch from the Englewood Police Department responds to calls for service not needing police response or being better served by an alternate response. EPD dispatch screens, dispatches and monitors calls MRU responds on.
The MRU's scope of practice is wide-ranging, from navigating and accessing community services, to non-emergent medical care in the field. The MRU consists of a medical professional and a behavioral health case manager who responds to community members experiencing behavioral or mental health, substance use or homelessness concerns.
MRU is intended to divert calls for service not needing traditional law enforcement response or calls that could be better served by the MRU. MRU provides trauma informed, client-centered care to individuals in crisis. The MRU team will help to identify culturally appropriate community resources, providing alternative options and potential long-term community supports to best meet the needs identified by the individual in crisis.
