Residential Flood Mitigation Grant

The City of Englewood is offering a maximum $10,000 grant to eligible homeowners to mitigate the potential for future flood damage on their property.  To qualify for the grant, the primary structure on the property must:

  1. Be located within the City of Englewood;
  2. Be located in a residential zone district;  
  3. Be located within a designated flood plain or area of probable flooding as verified by city staff;
  4. Have incurred storm water infiltration from a street or alley within the previous two years.  Please Note:  Property damage caused by faulty gutters, foundations, or roofs is not eligible for grant funding.

The grant is restricted to residential properties; businesses and non-profits are ineligible.  Funding is limited and applications will be considered on a first come/first served basis. 


Grant applications must be submitted by December 15, 2024 and the reimbursement form, with supporting documents, must be submitted no later than December 31, 2024.

 

Eligible Improvements:

All eligible property improvements must be reviewed and approved by the City of Englewood.   All improvements must be completed by a contractor licensed in the City of Englewood with all required permits and work inspected (as applicable) by city staff prior to reimbursement.  

  1. Purchase and installation of egress windows, including exit ladders.
  2. Purchase and installation of barriers into doorways to both main floors and basement entrances to prevent water from flowing under the doors.
  3. Construction or repair of porches to route storm water away from entrances and windows.
  4. Construction of berms or other landscape elements designed to divert storm water away from entrances and windows.
  5. Installation of floor drains in basements.
  6. Construction of channels under or grates in fences that allow water to pass through.
  7. Engineering or design services by a licensed, professional engineer for eligible improvements.
  8. Other improvements as approved by the Public Works Department.
