Street/Alley Maintenance & Repairs

The Street/Alley Maintenance & Repairs focuses on extending the lifespan of roadways/alleys and minimizing the cost of maintaining a viable road surface. Proper pavement management along with assessments of utilities, sidewalks, alleys and curbs helps to prioritize road maintenance and reconstruction projects.

Pavement Management Program

Street deterioration is caused by many factors, including the freeze/thaw cycle, traffic loading, the effects of moisture, and the quality of the soils beneath the street. As pavement deteriorates, certain types of distresses occur (potholes, settling, rutting, cracking). These distresses indicate what type of maintenance or rehabilitation is needed to prolong the lifespan of a street in a cost-effective manner.

Alley Maintenance

For alleys, the Public Works department rotates through 5 zones in the city for maintenance. The areas are graded and a soil stabilizer & dust-suppressant material is applied.

Street Sweeping

Street sweeping not only makes the streets cleaner, it is an important part of storm water pollution prevention. It prevents unwanted materials from flowing into the storm drains and polluting our water system and causing backups and flooding. It also keeps job sites clean and safe and helps to minimize tire damage.
