Title VI Plan

As a sub-recipient of federal highway funds, the Public Works Department must comply with federal and state laws and related statues to ensure equal access and opportunity to all persons with respect to transportation services, facilities, activities, and programs without regard to race, color, national origin, age, gender, or disability. The attached Title VI Plan has been developed in order to determine efforts to take to comply with the associated laws, provide a method for filing complaints, and provide for reasonable accommodations to communicate with and to project stakeholders.

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VI), is the overarching civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin, in any program, service or activity that receives federal assistance. Specifically, Title VI assures that “No person in the United States shall, on the grounds of race, color, or national origin be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefit of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal assistance.”

Every effort will be made to prevent unlawful discrimination in any program or activity, whether those programs and activities are federally funded or not, as guaranteed by the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987.
