Key Projects
- Reduce the use of pesticides in parks and open spaces.
- Status: In Progress
- Utilize organic fertilizers on athletic fields, increase the use of the organic fertilizer by 20% over the next five years.
- Status: Complete
- Conversion of nearly six acres at Broken Tee Golf Course from maintained turf to native grass areas as well as in certain park areas.
- Status: Complete
- Develop a plan to increase tree canopy on city-owned and private property, especially in areas with the lowest tree equity score data found via the Tree Equity Score Analyzer (TESA).
- Status: In Progress
- Conduct inventory of where turf and asphalt can be replaced with native plants. Create a target once inventory is complete.
- Status: In Progress
How we will know we are on track to succeed:
- Score of 75 or higher for each Englewood block group on the tree equity analyzer.
- Increase green infrastructure strategies where appropriate.
Projects in Development
- Engage the Parks in Recreation Commission in determining whether and how to incorporate more xeric, native, resilient, colorful plants in medians and in parks instead of concrete or turf.
